The Pekingese is an ancient breed, originating in China. The dogs were also known by lion dog, sun dog and sleeve dog. The Pekingese is a compact dog with a pear-shaped body, heavy forequarters and lighter hindquarters. Its temperament is one of directness, independence and individuality. This breed is also very friendly toward other pets and shy toward strangers.
