The Papillon is a breed of dog, of the spaniel type. It derives its name from its characteristic butterfly-like look of the long and fringed hair on the ears. The temperament of a papillon is a happy, friendly, adventurous dog. They are not shy or aggressive, make excellent family dogs. Papillon are dainty and elegant, with a plumed tail, and a long, silky coat of several color combinations, the base color being white.
