The Lhasa, originated in the isolated reaches of the Himalayan Mountains and has remained largely unchanged in type and temperament for thousands of years. It was bred as an interior sentinel in the Buddhist monasteries, to alert the monks to any intruders who entered. He has a long, flowing coat that requires extensive grooming. Lhasa Apso is one of the hardiest, toughest, and strongest-willed of all the small breeds. Though he can certainly be playful, the adult Lhasa carries himself with regal dignity.
